Carolyn Boucher set up a Team Ginny booth at this year's Simi Street Fair. It was a beautiful day with lots of people stopping by wanting to know more about Ginny. Carolyn was specially touched by a 17 year old who was interested in donating a kidney. Carolyn said that, although too young to donate, the sentiment behind the offer gave her hope for the next generation.
Stephanie started by telling us that November is Rotary Foundation Month. There is, she said, lots of important work needing to be accomplished in the world requiring grants for polio eradication, help for women and children and the need for clean water to name a few. But, she reminded us, that there is also our own Simi Sunrise Rotary Foundation. While both Foundations are critical and need our support. the Simi Sunrise Rotary Foundation funds, among other things, the local scholarships we hand out yearly. Stephanie ended by telling us to contact any of the Board members if you have any questions about our Foundation.

President Kathryn opened by welcoming our Zoom participants - Dorina, Linas, Dan Gesell and Corey. She then reminded us about last week's challenge of listening for those sounds of silence from Club members and the community (you can hear the song in your head) and acting on that. This week's challenge is to be a peace builder and make a difference. Can you hear Peace Train with Cat Stevens?
Kathryn ended with a quote from Mother Teresa, "Peace begins with a smile", and then asking us to go out today and smile at someone. It could change their day or their lives.

Gary White had some official business to attend to this morning. Per the By Laws of our Club, Gary announced the name of the person chosen by past Club presidents to be our next President-Elect Designate, taking over from Laura Berger in 2023-2024. The decision was met with unanimous approval in the room. Congratulations to John Tolson! Or should we now say Big Bad John. You can thank Steve for that. Great song Steve!

Martha Macker has asked us to Save the Date on December 4th as she will be hosting a Family of Rotary party at her house. She's calling it the Holiday on High Street. Part of the evening will consist of caravanning to High Street to enjoy the Christmas lights. More details to follow.
And Martha said that next Thursday, the 11th, she's going to have another social hour in lieu of our weekly meeting. This one will be held at TJ's Restaurant on Tierra Rejada. She's not planning on food being provided but see Martha for more details.

The International committee raised funds today for a $34,000 Global Grant in Zimbabwe sponsored by the Rotary Club of Conejo Valley. Chas Wilson asked for a $500 donation from a Club Member with under 2 years in the Club and then the Club would match it for $500. Congratulations Steve Munday for raising your hand first. The project will drill 2 solar powered wells to provide drinking water and irrigation for a community garden near Victoria Falls. More than 150 households will be impacted.

Bill Klepper is organizing another graffiti cleanup on Hummingbird trail up by the swing. It is slated for this Saturday, November 13th. Meet, where else, at Jerry's at 6:30 AM. Bill and Bob Whalen did some reconnaissance last week and Bob had a great time. Just ask him.

Yep, it's that time of year again! Sophie Klepper is once again organizing our Club's annual dinner for the Senior Center. It will be a Drive Thru dinner just like last year and will be held on Wednesday, November 24th. Sophie handed out the Sign Up Sheets and will be looking for a lot help so keep this in mind.
Carolyn Boucher gave us wrap up on the Team Ginny booth at the Street Fair. She said that she was very happy with how the day turned out. Great weather and thousands of people walking by with many stopping by the booth to inquire about Team Ginny and some to count the Kidney Beans in the jar. The Ranch even did an on-air interview of Rocky Rhodes and Thomas Herdering, both of whom were previous donors.
Carolyn thanked Harry VanDyck, John Tolson and Jake Finch for their committee work; Vince Dulcich, Bob Whalen, Matt Rowe for set up and take down; and Mary Paseta, Laura Berger and Dorina Timbol for manning the booth. And saving the best for last, she especially thanked Sophie Klepper for coordinating the Painted Rock booth right next to the Team Ginny booth. We heard terms like Force to be Reckoned With, Whirlwind and Carnival Barker to describe her activities running the booth, which were all in support of Team Ginny. For her appreciation, Carolyn presented Sophie with a bouquet of flowers. Super job Carolyn and Sophie!
Oh, there were 20, 492 beans in the jar and a winner guessed 20,500. The prize was a $250 Gift Certificate. To top it all off, Carolyn auctioned off the kidney beans and bean jar at this morning's meeting. An anonymous bidder with the initials "Bill Klepper" put in a winning bid of $100. Nice! And it turns out we have an auctioneer in our Club!

Ms. Diane Dawe
Our Guest Speaker this morning was Ms. Diane Dawe. She was introduced by Mr. Fernando Estevez.
Diane has a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, and a Master's and Doctorate in Psychology. She has been working as a Psychotherapist for 31 years and has had her own private practice for the last 21 years. Diane has counseled hundreds of teenagers and adults with severe weight problems and have helped them make lifestyle changes for better health and happier lives.
She is the founder of "Healthy Menus for Weight Loss" whose mission is to share with others the importance of the psychology of eating as well as methods of cooking whole foods to create balanced, beautiful meals that help you feel your best. 6 months ago she set up a website at www.healthymenusforweightloss.com that shares her knowledge of cooking.
Diane talked about her 10 basic tenets of food and eating and discussed what she calls Intuitive Eating. She says to reject the Diet Culture and to instead concentrate on how particular foods affect your body.
