President Kathryn announced that the remainder of our meetings in January will be held by Zoom. While this is obviously not an ideal way to hold meetings, she said, it is being done with the safety of our Club member's (and their relative's) health in mind. So, the January 20th and January 27th meetings will be held by Zoom.
Kathryn's hope is to hold the February 3rd meeting in person at the Best Western. That hope is based on the current information which, as we all know, can change. This schedule will be looked at weekly.
It turns out that Stephanie has not been dropping off her daughter at school. That was just a cover story. The truth is Stephanie prefers living out of her car. See Exhibit A above.
Since this was Board meeting week, she got straight to business. She thanked Cindy, Dorina and Mike for jumping in last minute to help out on the meeting responsibilities this morning. Wouldn't expect anything less from any of them.

President Kathryn Scroggin
President Kathryn opened up by reminding us that we are all able to be Dream Weavers and that her previous challenge to us was to improve the quality of life in our community. She went on to say that we have all achieved goals in our lives and, as Rotarians, it is our responsibility to help those coming up behind us to realize their goals. So, her new challenge to us is to expand our outreach to the community and find more projects that help more people in different ways. Where can the resources, both human and monetary, of our Club be best expended?
Kathryn also reminded us that the upcoming District Conference in Santa Barbara has been CANCELLED! See the announcement below for more details.
In keeping with the Dream Weaver challenge and that January is Vocational Service month, Kathryn asked Tim Gray to talk about his career path. And Dan Gesell did so as well.
Kathryn than ended with her usual quote. This one is from Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia from 2006 to 2018.
"If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough".

Someone in today's meeting suggested it might be a good time to remind everyone with excess fruit to contact Food Forward. Good idea and good organization. In fact, they spoke to our Club last year. They will arrange to come and pick your fruit for those in need. The most recent contact is Andrea Howry. Her email is:

A reminder that the Family of Rotary event at 5:00 PM, January 13th, 2022 at the Junkyard has been POSTPONED!
The District Conference has been CANCELLED due to covid. Everyone should have received an email with the details.
Carolyn Boucher thanked Sophie Klepper for arranging to have the actor Danny Trejo help publicize Team Ginny. And, someone recently came forward so getting the word out brings results.
Thank You Carolyn for your tireless efforts toward finding that donor!

Our Guest Speakers were our own Tim Gray and Dan Gesell. Tim and Dan spoke about their career paths.
Tim said his initial goal was to become a veterinarian. Working his way through school, he had a side job in IT. That company liked what they saw and offered to pay for the remainder of his college IF he got a "real" degree - Tim's words. The recommendation was to get an engineering degree. He had a newborn baby and six more years of school ahead of him so he opted for the paid school route. Tim ended up with a Computer Science degree. While pursuing his "real" degree, he caught the eye of the president of the company who promptly put Tim in charge of a $35 million rocket launch in Kodiak, Alaska. He had no experience but was given a lot support and a lot of sticky notes. He said that as soon as he felt the sound wave hit him from the launch, he was hooked. He became a rocket scientist. And, yes, Steve came through with Elton John's Rocket Man.
The picture above is the actual moment when he pushed the button to launch that first rocket in Kodiak. I know, he hasn't changed a bit!
Dan Gesell's career is in music. While attending college studying music, Dan competed at the Iowa State Fair playing a trumpet. He met someone at the Fair associated with the Young Americans. This meeting lead to Dan auditioning in LA for a spot with the Young Americans and a scholarship to Cal Arts. And it turns out we have a celebrity in our midst. Dan performed on the Ed Sullivan show 7-8 times with the Young Americans!
