Apparently it was no easy trick to acquire 100 bikes with all of the supply chain issues currently being experienced.
And, a reminder about our meeting schedule for the remainder of the year:
December 9th, 2021 - Board Meeting only. No regular meeting scheduled.
December 16th, 2021 - Meeting at the Best Western in person.
December 23rd, 2021 - Dark, no meeting.
December 30th, 2021 - Dark, no meeting.
Our next meeting will then be January 6th, 2022 at the Best Western in person.

President Kathryn Scroggin
President Kathryn welcomed our Zoom participants - John Shamoun, B. J. Anderson and Gregg Hartman.
She then asked Tim Gray to come up to introduce our newest Club member and then turned it over to Gary White, our Parliamentarian, to hold our annual meeting.
Kathryn let us know that Bill Fox is now home from the hospital where he's resting and recuperating. And he's well enough to be answering his text messages. Good news! Next on Kathryn's list was a reminder about the upcoming District Conference in Santa Barbara starting January 28th thru the 30th. There will be a gala Saturday night, the 29th. It's not too late to sign up.
Kathryn's challenge to us last week was to give Thanks to each other for who we are and for what we do each and every day. She then shared some personal experiences that were examples of this:
- The Senior Center Thanksgiving Dinner, headed by Sophie Klepper, created lots of goodwill. Many Thanks were given by both the volunteers and seniors.
- Kathryn was one of the unlucky ones who lost their power with an SCE shutdown on Thanksgiving Day! It was off from 9:00 AM to midnight so she ended up at a local restaurant. Upon hearing Kathryn's story, she was comped her meal by the owner and she saw him do this with others as well.
- There was a fire at a Moorpark restaurant recently and the owner suffered serious burns over 60% of his body. Within one day, over a 1000 people donated to the family.
These are examples, Kathryn said, that prove we still are part of a wonderful world. Our jobs, as Rotarians, is to make it even more wonderful.
She ended with a JK Rowling quote, " We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power inside ourselves already; we have the power to imagine better".

Tim Gray had the pleasure of inducting our newest member, Dan Jordan, into the Club. Dan grew up in Simi Valley and is a Simi High graduate. He has a Marketing and Design firm and holds several patents. And, more importantly, it sounds like we get a 2-for-1 deal since Dan's wife, Tammy, could be helping out once in a while. Gary White, our Parliamentarian, held our annual meeting. The first order of business was the unanimous election of the 2023-2024 president-elect, John "Big John" Tolson. Of course that song was played.

Laura Berger and her committee of Steve Hise, Dorina Timbol and Mary Paseta are looking at ways to enhance Club membership. One of the programs they like involves assigning a mentor to a new Club member. The mentors would revolve on a monthly basis and be available to assist the mentee with assimilating into the Club.
She's looking for mentors so let Laura know if you're interested.

Kathryn talked about the annual Target Shopping spree. It is tentatively set for December 11th but Kathryn needs to pin the details down with Karen Thompson so nothing is finalized yet. However, in the event that it is a Go, Kathryn is looking for donations of up to $200 to sponsor a child. In another sign of the generosity of our Club, Kathryn asked for a show of hands of who could help out with some level of a donation. Most hands in the room went up. Just amazing!
Bill Klepper is organizing another breakfast at Jerry's that also involves a Happy Face Hill spruce up. He's looking for help this Sunday, December 5th. Yes, SUNDAY. Meet at Jerry's at 7:00 AM if you can make it. It shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. And Dan, Bill always uses public shaming on members in order to get help on Club projects. Next time, don't make eye contact.
Kathryn let us know that the Moorpark Morning Club is looking for volunteers to help out on their Holiday on High Street event on December 4th. The hours needed are from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Let Kathryn know if you can help.
Peter Cicciari talked to us about the benefits that Rotary donations bring world wide. Over $440 million was raised by Rotary International last year covering over 2000 grants. And Simi Sunrise contributed to that. One avenue Peter mentioned that is used for contributions is the 30/30 Group. In order to be part of this prestigious Group, you will be required to donate $30 every quarter. Among many perks of this Group is the inclusion in The Spin. See Peter for details.

A reminder from Martha Macker that on the December 4th she will be hosting the Family of Rotary party at her house. She's calling it the Holiday on High Street. Sophie Klepper gave us a wrap up on the Senior Center Dinner. It was a very successful event, giving out over 500 meals! Sophie was helped by many and she thanked the Club, Robert at the Senior Center, the Explorers, the Boy Scouts, Simi Sunset Club, Kiwanis, Y's Men and Union Bank (Thanks Fernando!) to name a few. Truly a Community Event. Nice Job Sophie!

Carolyn Boucher gave us an update on Team Ginny activities. The first event of the new year will be a table at the District Conference in January taking place in Santa Barbara. A great opportunity for exposure.

Our Guest Speaker this morning was Ms. Maria M. Ventura, Public Affairs Manager, Ventura County for the Southern California Gas Company. She joined SoCalGas in the fall of 2013 and has over 15 years of experience in both the public and private sectors.
Maria generally spoke about how SoCalGas, like most energy providers, is going through an energy revolution. Since they are the largest natural gas provider in the nation, they are looked to for leadership. That being said, SoCalGas's stated goal is to be the cleanest natural gas provider in the nation.
Maria said that there's no silver bullet that will create a clean energy environment and that they are looking at various options for the future. This is being dictated by California's goal of clean energy by 2045. One of SoCalGas' goals therefor, is to have 20% of their gas come from renewable sources. One of these renewable sources is the methane gas produced by dairy cows, which we have all read and joked about. Another area Maria is excited about is the use of hydrogen to provide energy. To that end, SoCalGas is working on a prototype home that will be powered by hydrogen. Lots of changes coming our way according to Maria.
What was most impressive though was Maria's ability to handle the tough questions posed to her by our Club. One question in particular dealt with the capture of methane gas produced by cows and who would we all be working for because of that. Maria's years of experience dealing with difficult subjects kicked in and she deftly handled the question. You had to be there to appreciate the moment.
