Program
Theresa Honbo (Child Development Center Manager) and Laurel Johnston (VP of Philanthropy, Adventist Health Simi Valley) spoke about the Adventist Health Child Development Center Simi Valley. The Center has provided services for children with special needs for over 45 years! Theresa discussed the multi-disciplinary approach that includes speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and early intervention services. She also talked about the philosophy of therapy through play, the idea that children are engaged through play and learn through movement, interaction, and exploration. The entire family is encouraged to participate and therapy continues at home.
Laurel and Theresa also talked about the importance of the Bridge the Gap Scholarship, which provides continuity of care after services end at Regional Center and before the start of services from the school district. Monica Berlin will be organizing a tour of the facility, stay tuned for more information.
As part of the change to grant allocations every month this year, Tim Gray presented an allocation gift to Laurel and Theresa for the Adventist Health Child Development Center.
This meeting's program, as well as the allocation, aligns with July's Focus: Maternal & Child Health.
