President Laura opened by thanking Martha Macker, behind her, for arranging the in person Board meeting at Varenita this morning.  Laura wants to have all of the upcoming Board meetings in person from now on as opposed to Zoom and Varenita works out very nicely for that purpose.  Meetings are much more productive in person as opposed to being virtual she said.  That we can all pretty much all agree on.

Laura then recited, as promised, her "why Rotary" elevator speech to us, going something like this:

Simi Sunrise Rotary is a non-political, non-religious social organization comprised of business, civic and professional leaders who meet on a regular basis in order to form friendships that will better the community through those friendships both locally and abroad.

Laura then ended with a reading of the 4 Way Test, a good reminder for us all.

Geovanny Ragsdale reminded us about the upcoming Family of Rotary events - see above.  Please note the CHANGE IN DATE for the District Governor's visit to September 29th!

There is a note below on the upcoming Saturday, August 6th Family Picnic at Lemon Park.  It has a QR code for RSVP'ing and for letting them know what side dish you are bringing.

And, as per earlier edict, all members must schedule their personal vacations around these Family of Rotary dates or risk public shaming.

Steve Hise reminded us that Pickelball will be played prior to the August 6th Picnic.  Play will start at 10:00 AM and what a great way to build up an appetite for the Picnic!  See Steve for details.

And, Steve has offered to teach anyone to play who wants to learn so no excuses for not participating.  And Bill promised that no commercials will be filmed during play.

President Laura earlier announced a Community Needs Assessment committee meeting on Monday, August 1st at 6:00 PM.  Laura is looking for Club members who would be interested in joining the committee.  It will be a combination of all Simi Rotary Clubs.

Birthday Fact:  Karen was a cheerleader at Moorpark College and is asked to fill in as a substitute whenever needed; she is the mother of 3 boys and grandmother to 4 boys and 1 granddaughter.  That has got to be one little girl who gets a lot of attention!

Birthday Fact:  Cindy loves to play golf and bike.  She's played golf all over the US and has been to the golf Mecca, St. Andrews.  Her favorite thing to do though is babysit her two grandchildren every Friday. At 7 months and 5 years, that's a lot of work.

ROYAL ROTARIAN
Another new feature to the Bulletin is the awarding of the highly coveted title of Royal Rotarian to a deserving member of the Club.  Not only do you have the title bestowed upon you, you also get to wear the cape.....but only for a few minutes.  You have to give the cape back.

Mike Mutal, with the help of Stephanie Shannon, recognized Jim Anglin as our Royal Rotarian this week.  Jim personifies what being a Rotarian is all about.  Jim is active in his church, in his community and this Club.  He raises funds, participates in functions and looks for nothing in return.  Quite an example to follow.  However, it was a bit awkward at the end of the ceremony.  Jim wanted to keep the cape so Mike had to get physical and wrestle the cape back from him.

Mike needed Stephanie's help to retrieve the cape from Jim.

This is a new addition to the Bulletin where Club members submit pictures and facts about themselves and then we get to make fun of them......

B.J. Anderson was our victim this week.  Jim Anglin interviewed B.J. and we learned that B.J., a member of Simi Sunrise Rotary for 31 years, was our first female Rotary president.  I'm sure she has some interesting stories to tell about her year as president.  What a trail blazer!  She said that it's the people in the Club that keep her coming back and we are all better for it.
In recognition of her 31 years of Rotary service, and as a trail blazing past president, Laura presented BJ with a beautiful Rotary necklace.

Our meeting next week, July 21st, will be in person at the Best Western.  See you there!

======================
Please remember to bring a friend or an acquaintance to our next meeting.  This is a GREAT way to grow our membership!  And the guest's breakfast is taken care of.
