President Bill reminded us that we are THE GO TO CLUB! And one of the reasons for that is due to our relationships within the community. An example of this is a recent call Bill received from Brian Dennert of the Parks Department. Brian came to Bill asking for Simi Sunrise's help in planting 50 to 100 new Oak Trees in Corriganville Park this coming December. The purpose is to replace the ones that are dying. Other examples Bill gave where relationships have lead to Service Above Self are the Senior Center and The Free Clinic.
President Bill ended by encouraging us all to think of how we can build on existing relationships, or start new ones, that can blossom into results that better the community.

Larry and Ryan gave us an update. 50 tickets have been sold to date and things are going smoothly. They asked that we spread the word and there are still sponsorships available. And they reminded us that the proceeds go to our Club's service projects.

Halloween Drive-In Movie
Larry and Ryan said that the Halloween Drive In Movie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, is moving forward with all systems a GO! More details to follow....
Drive In Concert
Larry and Ryan gave us an update on the Drive In concert in late September featuring Queen Nation. Negotiations are ongoing with the possibility that ticket prices may have to increase to cover the expenses associated with the event. Stay tuned for more details.
Vocational Job Seeking Event
Geovanny Ragsdale reported on the Zoom Meeting she coordinated on Monday related to helping those in the community seeking employment. It was a big success! She thanked Tim Gray for lending his expertise in maneuvering through potential employer's screening process in the digital age. Geovanny hopes to have the session up on our website soon so look for that announcement. Thank you Geovanny!
Jake Finch announced an upcoming Blood Drive hosted by the Sunset Club in August. More details to follow...
Peter Cicciari reminded us that you can include the Rotary Foundation in your Estate Planning. See Peter for more information. And speaking of the Foundation, Peter awarded Dan Gesell a Plus 5 Pin for his support of the Foundation. Congratulations Dan, truly an inspiration to us all!

Our Guest Speakers this week were Jamie Roark and Kristy Bruck discussing The Festival of Trees.

Jamie, who started the Festival of Trees, is the owner of the Oasis Salon here in Simi and is a 20 year Simi resident. Jamie's inspiration for the Festival of Trees comes from here family's involvement in a similar event in Salt Lake City, her home town. The Salt Lake City event is huge bringing in upwards of $2.5 million a year benefiting the local hospitals.
Jamie explained that the goal of the Festival was to create an event that engaged the communities of Simi Valley and Moorpark in order to help offset expenses incurred by cancer patients and their families while in treatment. This is done by sponsoring Trees, Wreaths, Table Cloths, Mantle Pieces, etc. by individuals and organizations that are then auctioned off. Their fourth event last year exceeded her expectations. School organizations such as bands and musical groups participate. To date, over $76,000 has been raised with $32,000 of that going to those in need.
Kristy added that there are four levels of sponsorship: Platinum Lights ($1200); Golden Ring ($600); Silver Bells ($300); Candy Cane ($150) and to contact either Jamie or Kristy if you want to sponsor. The website is "simivalleyfestivaloftrees.com".
Jamie concluded by saying that, due to COVID-19, this year's event will be Virtual and that Opportunity Event tickets will be available to purchase.
