President Laura got the meeting started by welcoming our guests and members (both in person and on Zoom) and then giving her Rotary elevator speech.
She then thanked those that cleaned up Happy Face Hill and participated in Bolio. She also thanked Daniel Jordan for creating the beautiful content on both Facebook and Instagram.
Laura then reminded us about and encouraged us to attend the upcoming District 5240 Foundation Gala in Camarillo on May 13th (see notice below under Community News) as well as the upcoming District 5240 Awards on June 24th from 12 PM to 3:00 PM. More details on the June 24th event to follow but she would really like a good Club turn out for this event as we will likely (hopefully) receive some awards. Laura said to let her know if anyone wants to carpool to the District Awards.

Laura also encouraged us all to participate at some level in the upcoming Happy Face Music Festival. It is one of our main fundraisers and participation and success is essential to our Club's ability to fund our many programs and events throughout the year.
Lastly, Laura announced an event that our Club is hosting. It is a Zoom call through the Rotary Action For Peace involving youth from around the world. See Flyer below.

Sal Ventura is very well traveled and he loves adventure. This photo was taken on Mt. St. Helens at an elevation of 14,411 feet. It was taken the year the mountain erupted.
Sal is an M.I.T. graduate and retired as an Environmental Engineer working for a multi-national firm. Sal is still into environmental issues like sustainability and leaving something for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.

Anni Sumby and Dorina Timbol announced another Kareyucky Night! Save the Date for Saturday, July 29th starting at 6:00 PM. Sign ups will be available online at kareyucky.com once the date gets closer. YES! is scheduled for October 21, 2023! Dorina Timbol is leading the charge for YES! across the District and is asking that sign ups start early. This YES! program will be bigger and better than last year (which will be hard to do!) with discussions happening with, among others, the Simi Valley Chief of Police and the Simi Valley Unified School District Superintendent. One theme this year will be humanizing the police.

I am asking you personally to join me in our celebration of all the contributions our clubs have made throughout the year to Our Rotary Foundation. I am excited about this evening! It will be extraordinary! We will GET LOUD!
Our Foundation Gala will be like none other before! We will be showcasing projects you have completed using our DDF funds and Global Grants! We will have pictures and videos that will tell stories we cannot convey in words. Our commitment to The Rotary Foundation allows our clubs to accomplish these life-changing projects.

Mr. Dana Gasser
Our Speaker this morning was Mr. Dana Gasser. Dana is the COO/Co-Founder of ANOVOS and Co-Founder of Reflex Collectibles which focuses on the creation of High Replica Costumes and Props from people's favorite movies and TV shows. Dana has worked with Disney on Star Wars and Marvel; NBCUniversal for Battlestar Galactica; Sony for Ghostbusters; and CBS/Paramount for Star Trek and Dexter. He's also worked at both Disney parks (Florida and Anaheim) on their newest Star Wars development duplicating and creating costumes and props.
Dana started with a career in computers but always loved building and creating costumes and props from shows. In 2009 he decided to take his passion and hobby to the next level and started one of the first companies, ANOVOS, to offer production quality costumes available to the public as in Comic Con - San Diego. He digitally scans whatever prop or costume he wants to duplicate and then recreates them with 3D printing technology. This is an oversimplification of his process as it involves a myriad of details to deal with to get it just right. Costumes he creates can cost upwards of $5-6,000.
The only glitch in this morning's presentation was with the introduction. It turns out that the person who introduced Dana (who was just named Remarkable Woman of the Year by KTLA and we'll leave it that) didn't know the first thing about Star Wars!

This gives you the opportunity to upload a photo and enter a permanent password.
